"The details slip first. Not the love — that stays. But the weight of their paw on your leg at night. The specific sound of their sleep. The way they looked at you the morning everything changed."
You think you'll remember. You won't. This journal is for before — and for after.
What you'll write together.

01
Welcome to Our Story
Where it all began. The first day, the first look, the moment they became yours.
02
Who They Were
The tilt of the head. The sound of them being them. The personality only you really know.
03
Routines & Rituals
The morning walk. The sleeping spot. The tiny choreography of a life — the part that fades first.
04
Milestones & Moments
The days you'll always remember. And the ordinary ones you might lose if you don't write them down.
05
Adventures & Memories
Every place you took them. Every place they made yours. The moments worth saving twice.
06
Friends & Family
The people they chose. The laps they claimed. The family they made — for you, and around you.
07
What they Taught Me
Everything you learned, only because of them. Everything you'll carry — long after.
Each chapter pulls a different piece of their life into the open — so none of it slips away.
"Thank you for the years you gave us. For the way you made us feel less alone. For never once doubting you were loved."

What keepers are saying
"I kept Pickle's collar in a sock drawer for almost a year. I couldn't bear to put it away, and I couldn't bear to leave it out. The linen keepsake box gave it a home next to everything I'd written about him."
— Maya, with Pickle, Dachshund
"My wife and I wrote in it together. She remembered the funny stuff I always forgot. Walter is 16 now. Whatever comes next, both our voices are in there telling his story."
— David, dad of Walter, Maine Coon
"June passed four years ago. I never knew what to do with how much I still missed her. Writing about her finally felt like permission."
Naomi, mom of June, Rescue Mix
Gentle questions
You might be wondering
Is it too early to start if my pet is still healthy?
Not at all — this is the best time. The details you can write down today are the ones that fade first: the way they greet you, the sound of their sleep, the small routines you think you'll always remember. Starting now isn't about expecting the worst. It's about treasuring what's still right here in the next room.
Won't writing about this just make me sad?
Most people find the opposite. Writing tends to feel less like grieving and more like paying attention — noticing the good while it's still happening. There may be tender moments, but keepers often tell us it made the time they had left feel fuller, not heavier.
Do I have to be a good writer?
No. The prompts do the heavy lifting. One honest sentence about the sound of them sleeping is worth more than a perfect essay you'll never write. There's no wrong way to do this.
What if it gets too hard partway through?
Put it down. Come back tomorrow, or next week. Some keepers write a sentence at a time; others fill a whole chapter in a sitting. Your story waits for you, and whatever you can give it today is enough.
Can my family write in it too?
Yes, and it's lovely when they do. Everyone remembers a different piece of the same life — the funny thing only the kids saw, the habit only you noticed. You can invite the people you choose to add their memories alongside yours.
Are my entries private?
Completely. Only you and anyone you invite can see what you write. We don't share your entries, sell them, or use them to train AI. Your story is yours.
My pet has already passed — is this still for me?
Yes. Memory is never too old to honor. Many keepers begin years afterward and say the writing finally gave their grief somewhere to live. Wherever you are, you're welcome here.
Their story stays as long as you write it down.
